Product intro

Grav is a fresh flat-file database which is easy to install. It uses a number of Symfony components and is very fast to get started with.

Joomla! is one of the big three PHP CMSes. Currently it uses only a single component from the Symfony project. Joomla remains a strong contender with a large number of users and extensions.

Main advantages

  • Extensible via Plugins, Skeletons and Themes
  • A fresh codebase, no PHP4 cruft here
  • Large developer and user base

  • Tried and tested basic concepts

Main disvantages

  • Limited use cases due to flat-file approach
  • Limited developer base
  • Needs more work to round the edges in real-world use

  • Administration can be confusing
  • Lack of focus, tries to do everything
  • Codebase is a mix of old and new
