Product intro

Joomla! is one of the big three PHP CMSes. Currently it uses only a single component from the Symfony project. Joomla remains a strong contender with a large number of users and extensions.

Open Orchestra is an Open Source CMS built on the full stack framework. For database it uses a MongoDB, a NoSQL store rather than the more typical Relational Databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.

Main advantages
  • Large developer and user base
  • Plenty of ready made extensions available
  • Tried and tested basic concepts

  • Full Stack Symfony implementation with focus on code quality
  • NoSQL MongoDB backend allows high performance
  • Clean admin UI with drag & drop layout management
Main disvantages
  • Administration can be confusing
  • Lack of focus, tries to do everything
  • Codebase is a mix of old and new

  • Fairly unknown and not widely adopted
  • Quite dependent on the efforts of a single company
  • Documentation not the best (REST API, for example)
